Most EdTech is built in boardrooms, not classrooms. It’s optimized for procurement cycles and investor decks—not for student mastery.
We’re flipping the model. HierLearning only backs LearnTech founders who co-design with teachers, validate with districts, and publish hard evidence.
We embed real educators and district leaders into your design process. Weekly teacher reviews. Monthly classroom labs. Outcomes defined by the people who matter.
Forget vanity metrics. We drive toward measurable outcomes:
MVP to early revenue.
K-12 LearnTech—mastery-based learning, tutoring, language, math, CTE, special ed, MTSS acceleration, attendance→agency.
We don't do plumbing - no infrastructure, no SIS, and definitely no HRIS.
Coachable. Equity-minded. Outcome-obsessed.
Build. Test. Prove. with real classrooms
Get privacy & procurement-ready from day one.
Access pilot sites, teacher councils, district champions.
Publish Evidence Notes that buyers and funders actually trust.
Karim Kuperhause is the founder of HierLearning. He's a former K12 elementary school teacher trained at McGill University. While a teacher, he founded a brick and mortar tutoring company that grew to 3 locations and 32 satellite programs directly in schools. After 12 years in the classroom, Karim jumped into EdTech sales and over the course of 15 years, scaled over a dozen solutions into school districts in the US and Canada. Karim now spends his time mentoring EdTech founders and helping them grow and scale their startups.
HierLearning is short for Hierarchy of Learning. We all know that there's a hierarchy to learning - you can't learn multiplication until you've mastered addition. All learning is hierarchical (even learning how to read) and HierLearning is focused on promoting early stage startups that strive for student learning and mastery of content.
There are too many EdTech companies (backed by unsuspecting VCs) that are solving problems in education that don't need to be solved. HierLearning is intent on incubating early stage startups that actually move the needle on student learning and nothing else.
HierLearning only invests in early stage startups that can measurably showcase how they will increase student learning. The key word is 'measure'. There must be a path where student gains can be measured against the status quo.
As an incubator, HierLearning attracts, identifies, and invests in early stage startups. The goal is to help them reach a minimally viable solution that can be implemented and tested for student learning. Once the solution is validated for student learning, we then provide the scaffolding to grow and scale.
For startups that successfully move into the grow and scale phase within the first year, the goal is to begin partial exists within 24-36 months.
HierLearning — Make learning outcomes inevitable.
